Print Automation Using XML

InDesign added support for XML data a long time ago. I wrote the book A Designers Guide to Adobe InDesign and XML over 15 years ago but the techniques and functionality are as valid today as they were back in 2006.

Although most people are not familiar with XML the language is more in use today than ever before. The language is related to HTML and was first created in 1998. It's orgin is wrapped up in the creation of the web and the search for a simple way to transfer and process data on the Internet.

XML enables InDesign users to import and export content quickly and easily and to create all types of documents using data from spreadsheets and databases. Build business cards, brochures and catalogs with a click of button. No need for a pricey Extension or Plugin, everything you need is right there in InDesign.
