This is the home page of the Chicago InDesign User Group. We are one of the oldest and largest Adobe user groups in the country. We hold meetings about every other month to cover the latest tools, tricks and trends in Adobe InDesign. Recently, Adobe decided to drop formal support for all user groups. In Chicago, we decided to continue holding meetings and to support our large and active users here in the windy city. We created this site recently to broadcast news and information about our group and our meetings. Stay tuned for the latest updates. We hope to see you at the next meeting.

InDesign added support for XML data a long time ago. I wrote the book A Designers Guide to Adobe InDesign and XML over 15 years ago but the techniques and functionality are as valid today as they were back in 2006.
Although most people are not familiar with XML the language is more in use today than ever before. The language is related to HTML and was first created in 1998. It's orgin is wrapped up in the creation of the web and the search for a simple way to transfer and process data on the Internet.

InDesign provides a variety of methods for publishing text and data. In our next meeting we're going to cover several ways to get your data into and out of the program. We'll contrast and compare techniques using spreadsheets, databases, and other formats. Learn how to create all types of documents using dynamic data. Then we'll look at how to get data that's already inside InDesign out of the program without losing the structure and formatting of the data. Date: November 6, 2019 Time: 5:30pm
